Les Amours de Psyche et de Cupidon, written by Jean de la Fontaine with illustrations by Louis Icart,
consists of 22 full page color etchings and 2 partial page color etchings as chapter headings,
The book was published in 1949 with a total edition of 150, plus editions for the artist. This is Icart's last illustrated book. The page size is 10 x 13 1/4" and the full page plate size is 6 1/2 x 9 1/4".
We are selling the complete book which contains text, 22 full sized color etching and 2 partial size color etching plus 24 full sized b/w etchings. The etchings shown below are from book #36. The etchings have all been conserved and are in fine condition. There is foxing to the pages of the book and the slipcase.
The etchings have been numbered for identification purposes. Note, that none of the etchings are signed. Icart did not, as a rule, sign his bookplate etchings. If these etchings were signed, the signatures would likely be a facsimile. The back of each etching is signed and dated by John Bates as verification of authenticity. A Certificate of Authenticity is also provided.
