Louis Icart
French (1890 - 1950)

Felicia ou Mes Fredaines - 1947

The book by Andrea de Nerciat with illustrations by Louis Icart consists of 20 full page color etchings and 8 culs-de lampe. The book was published in 1945 with an edition of 530 printed on Arches. The book relates sexual escapes of the eighteenth century French court and is particularly graphic. The total number of pages is 188 and the text is in French.

Show below is the special edition of the book, #11, which contains one original watercolor drawing, one copper plate, 20 color etchings with text, one set of the etchings in sepia, and one set of the etchings in b/w. The paper for the text and color etching is Japon Imperial.

The book has gold gilding for the flowers and title on the spine, and also the head. This is a fine example of bookbinding done by F. ThieĢbault.

Note, that none of the etchings are signed. Icart did not, as a rule, sign his bookplate etchings. If these etchings were signed, the signatures would likely be a facsimile. A Certificate of Authenticity is also provided.
