Salvador Dali Les Caprices de Goya - 1977
Salvador Dali's reworking of Goya's Los Caprichos described as leaf with title recto and explanatory text verso and 80 colour drypoint etchings over heliogravure with additional pochoir color by Salvador Dali each numbered from the edition of 200 at lower left and signed by the artist in pencil, final leaf with justification. The image size for the title page is 22.7 x 17 cm and the image size for the remaining prints is 39 x 31.3 cm. Loose as issued in original publisher's printed wrappers, brown leatherette portfolio with gilt titles to front cover and spine, brown card board slipcase. The prints were executed by J.J. Rigal in heliogravure after Goya's original etchings with aquatint, and were reworked and altered in drypoint by Dali and include new titles in heliogravure by Dali and additional pochoir colour. In the majority of plates, Dali has added satirical and Surrealist flourishes but in several, Dali succeeds in highlighting details, perhaps even to a greater extent and certainly with less subtlety, than Goya himself.
The edition is 151 of 200 on veil de Rives paper. The case and artwork are in very fine condition. The drypoint has a rich burr and the coloring is very good. The images shown are not from the edition that is for sale. For additional images, please contact us.
