Salvador Dali Japanese Fairy Tales – 1976

Salvador Dali Japanese Fairy Tales suite issued in 1976, consists of 10 etchings.  Gerschmann, Stockholm/Yayoi, Tokyo published the suite.  Rigal did the engraving.  This set is on Richard de Bas paper.  Dali signed each etching in the lower right.  Each etching has a tirage number in the lower left. The one we have is from the set of LXXV. The etchings are sold as a complete suite. The image size is 18 7/8 x 15.”  The sheet size is 26 x 19 7/8″. The suite is in fine condition.  The etchings have never been framed or displayed.  The suite is authentic.

Dalí was known for his role in Surrealism. He was also a seminal example of celebrity showmanship. Subsequently the cult of personality is a phenomenon that dominates popular culture today. Dali was always a colorful and flamboyant presence. This is reflected by his signature cape, wide-eyed expression and trademark upturned waxed mustache. Dalí was a master of self-promotion and spectacle.

This is the tirage for the Dali Japanese Fairy Tales

The total tirage is 300. The were 175 (1/175 – 175/175) on Arches paper. There were 75 on either Japon or Richard de Bas paper. Additionally, there were 25 EA and 25 HC on Richard de Bas. The Yayoi prints come with a lucite case that contains the etchings.
